The really bad slowdown followed by a crash happened only once so far. Since I lost my work, I did almost the exact steps once again and GIMP became a bit slow again - but is wasn't nearly as bad as before. Unfortunately I did not save my work before the crash so I can not upload a test file :/! When I tried to apply a color filter, GIMP just crashed without any error message.When changing layer modes, the "roll down" of the changed pixels became slower and slower with every change I made.Creating the group was not fast but ok - but moving the layers to the group took multiple seconds and the contents of the layer dialog disappeared for this whole time. In order to clean up my xcf file, I tried to put the two extra layers into a layer group.
